Nottinghamshire is the 27th largest county in England, yet is one of the larger counties in the East Midlands in terms of population, with more than 1 million people, making it the 17th largest county in the country.
The county city is Nottingham, with other major towns in the region including Mansfield and Newark-on-Trent. The majority of people in Nottinghamshire live in the Greater Nottingham conurbation, which also extends into Derbyshire.
